 Flag of the German Democratic Republic symbol of Communist Germany from 1959 until 1990 when it was annexed to West Germany. The coat of arms consists of a rye crown with a hammer and compass in the center on a red background to represent the peasants, workers and cultural environment united in communist ideology.
